Former head coach Robins has revealed the real reason behind his decision to reject the club’s long-term plans and ultimately step away from his role, admitting that fundamental disagreements over the team’s style of play played a major part in his departure.
Speaking candidly in a recent interview, Robins did not hold back when discussing the issues that led to his exit.
“I don’t like their pattern of playing,” Robins said bluntly. “That is why I rejected and left the club while I was their coach.”
According to the experienced manager, the disagreement was not about results or personal relationships but rather about football philosophy. Robins explained that he strongly believes a team’s identity must be built around an attacking, progressive style, something he felt was not aligned with the direction the club wanted to pursue.
During his time in charge, Robins attempted to implement a system that emphasized quick transitions, high pressing, and creative freedom for attacking players. However, discussions with the club’s hierarchy reportedly revealed a preference for a more cautious and structured approach.
Those differences gradually created tension behind the scenes.
“I always respect the club’s decisions,” Robins continued. “But as a coach, you must believe in the football you are asking your players to play. If the philosophy is different from what you believe in, it becomes difficult to continue.”
Sources close to the club say that while Robins remained professional throughout the situation, it became increasingly clear that both sides were moving in different directions. Rather than continue under conditions that did not align with his vision, the coach decided it was best to step away.
Despite the disagreement, Robins expressed gratitude for the opportunity he had at the club and praised the players for their commitment during his tenure.
“I enjoyed working with the squad and the staff,” he said. “There are many talented players there, and I wish them success. My decision was simply about football philosophy.”
Since his departure, speculation has linked Robins with several clubs looking for an experienced manager capable of rebuilding teams and developing attacking football systems.
For now, however, Robins insists he is taking time to reflect before making his next move. What remains clear is that wherever he goes next, he will only take a job where his football philosophy can truly be implemented.
“I will return to coaching,” he concluded. “But it has to be the right project.”
