Severe storm devastates Parramatta Eels training base – equipment destroyed and players injured during shocking weather strike
Chaos erupted this afternoon at the Parramatta Eels’ Kellyville Park training facility when a violent and unexpected storm smashed through Western Sydney, leaving destruction across the club’s high-performance area and forcing an immediate evacuation.
What began as a routine preparation session quickly turned into a frightening emergency. Without warning, massive gusts tore across the training ground, lifting equipment into the air and sending staff and players running for safety. Goalpost padding, tackle bags, cones, analysis screens, and conditioning tools were scattered across the field like paper.
Several Eels players were hit by flying debris during the storm’s most intense moments and were quickly attended to by the club’s medical staff. Early assessments indicate minor injuries only, though the shock of the incident was clearly visible on everyone who witnessed it.
The damage to the facility is substantial. High-tech training gear, GPS trackers, scrum machines, video-analysis systems, and other performance equipment suffered heavy destruction. Parts of the gym and outdoor training structures were also affected as the storm ripped through fencing, roofing sheets, and protective coverings.
A Parramatta spokesperson described the moment as:
“One of the most sudden and powerful weather events we’ve experienced at the club. Our first priority was getting everyone to safety. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.”
Emergency crews and club ground staff immediately began clearing debris and assessing structural integrity across the training site. Several sections have been cordoned off until safety inspections are completed. Repairs and equipment replacement will likely take days, possibly weeks.
