ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A University of Georgia football player was slapped with a felony charge last week.
Jail records show sophomore Jahzare Jackson was arrested in Athens on July 16.
Jackson was charged with felony possession of marijuana of more than 1 ounce, along with misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana of less than 1 ounce, possession and use of drug-related objects, and physically holding or supporting a wireless device while driving, documents show.
Jackson was allegedly holding a cellphone while he was driving, according to the arrest warrant.
Jail records show he was released on bonds totaling $5,030 the next morning.
Jackson is an offensive lineman for the Dawgs, and appeared in all 14 games last season. The latest arrest of a UGA football player was first reported by The Athens Banner-Herald.
There’s no word yet from UGA about potential discipline Jackson could face.
