In a move that has stunned both the sports world and humanitarian circles, former Alabama Crimson Tide star and NFL quarterback Jalen Milroe has announced the donation of his entire $102.9 million bonus and sponsorship earnings to build a groundbreaking housing complex for the homeless in his home state. The initiative will fund the construction of 150 permanent housing units and provide 300 shelter beds, directly addressing the homelessness crisis that affects thousands across Alabama.
At a packed press conference held at the Montgomery Civic Center, Milroe stood with tears in his eyes as he detailed the personal motivation behind the historic donation. “I’ve seen the effects of homelessness firsthand growing up,” he said. “I remember nights driving past people sleeping under bridges and on bus benches, and thinking—if I ever had the means, I’d change that. Architectural renderings reveal a vibrant, eco-friendly community with solar panels, green spaces, playgrounds, and a community garden. Construction is expected to begin this fall, with the first residents projected to move in by late 2026.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey issued a statement applauding Milroe’s generosity, calling it “a once-in-a-generation act of compassion and leadership that will ripple through our communities for decades.”
Milroe’s former coach, Nick Saban, also commented: “Jalen was always more than an athlete. He’s a man of character and conviction. What he’s done here proves that.”
