The Red Raiders have secured a verbal commitment from a highly coveted 2026 four-star cornerback out of East Texas, solidifying their foothold in a region long known for producing gritty, game-ready athletes.
The recruit, who stands at 6-foot-0 and weighs 175 pounds, is ranked among the top cornerbacks in the state of Texas for the Class of 2026 and carries national interest from powerhouse programs across the country. Despite attention from SEC and Big Ten schools, the East Texas standout chose to shut down his recruitment early and pledge his future to Joey McGuire’s Red Raiders.
“My heart just told me Texas Tech,” the young corner said after announcing his decision. “The love they showed me from the beginning, the way Coach McGuire and the staff believed in me — it made me feel like family. That’s all I needed.”
The commitment is a major win for McGuire and his staff, especially secondary coach Marcel Yates, who made the young defensive back a priority early in the recruiting cycle. Texas Tech’s staff emphasized the opportunity to contribute early in a defense that’s steadily improving — and the chance to be a cornerstone in a top-tier Big 12 secondary.
What separates this recruit isn’t just his athleticism — though he has plenty. Known for his elite closing speed, physical press coverage, and high football IQ, he’s already drawn comparisons to former All-Big 12 defensive backs. He’s a film junkie, a weight room regular, and someone coaches say approaches the game “like a professional.”
On the field, he put up eye-popping numbers as a sophomore, recording five interceptions, 15 pass breakups, and over 40 tackles, while often shadowing opposing teams’ top receivers. Off the field, he’s praised for his leadership, humility, and work ethic — a quiet competitor with a chip on his shoulder.
“I’m not just coming to Tech to play football,” he said. “I’m coming to help build something special.”
Texas Tech has been aggressive in establishing itself as a destination for blue-chip talent in recent recruiting cycles, especially from within Texas.
