For Devin Taylor, the 2025 college baseball season was more than a breakout—it was a statement.
And now, that statement has been recognized on the national stage. The Indiana Hoosiers’ star outfielder has been named a Second Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), a prestigious honor that caps off one of the most electric individual campaigns in the Big Ten this year.
Taylor, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, emerged as one of the most feared hitters in college baseball. His numbers speak volumes: a .359 batting average, 20 home runs, 65 RBIs, and a .728 slugging percentage. But beyond the stats, it was the consistency and clutch performances that set him apart. He wasn’t just putting up numbers—he was changing games.
“Devin’s growth from year one to year two has been phenomenal,” said Indiana head coach Jeff Mercer. “He’s worked for everything he’s earned, and this ABCA recognition is a reflection of that hard work. He’s one of the best players in the country, and he plays with that edge every single day.”
Taylor began the 2025 season already on the radar, but he quickly moved from “one to watch” to “must-see TV” by mid-March. During a red-hot stretch against ranked non-conference opponents, he hit safely in 14 straight games, blasted six homers, and drove in 18 runs—cementing his status as the Hoosiers’ offensive engine. Whether it was crushing fastballs deep into the outfield seats or working deep counts to draw walks, Taylor showcased a mature approach beyond his years.
He also stepped up as a leader in the locker room. Despite being just a sophomore, teammates say Taylor brought energy and accountability every day, becoming a vocal presence in a lineup filled with underclassmen talent.
“Devin’s the kind of guy who leads with his play, but he’s also the first to speak up when it’s needed,” said teammate Brock Tibbitts. “When he’s locked in, we’re all locked in. He sets the tone.”
Taylor’s ABCA Second Team selection places him among the elite of college baseball—players considered likely candidates for the MLB Draft and major awards. The ABCA teams are chosen by a panel of respected coaches from across the country, which makes the honor even more meaningful to Taylor and the program.
“It’s a blessing,” Taylor said in a team-released statement. “You dream of these moments, but to actually get here, knowing all the work and the people behind it—that’s what makes it special. I’m just proud to represent Indiana the best way I can.”
With his All-American status secured, attention now turns to what’s next. MLB scouts have been regulars at Bart Kaufman Field this spring, and Taylor is widely projected as a top-50 pick in next summer’s MLB Draft. But for now, the focus remains on finishing what he started in Bloomington.
“There’s still more to prove,” Taylor added. “We’re chasing championships.”
