MORGANTOWN, WV — In a thunderous collision of destiny and dominance, the West Virginia Mountaineers baseball team has done the unthinkable: they’ve been officially recognized as the Best Baseball Team in the World, following a historic season that shattered records, redefined the sport, and united a state—and now, a planet.
The announcement came during a joint global broadcast from ESPN, Netflix, and the Guinness World Records headquarters in London, where WVU’s achievement was declared “the most complete athletic campaign in modern baseball history, collegiate or professional.”
An Unprecedented Run
The Mountaineers completed their 2025 season with a staggering 67–1 record, including an undefeated postseason and a sweep of the newly minted Global Collegiate Baseball Series—a tournament featuring top college programs from the U.S., Japan, the Dominican Republic, South Korea, and Venezuela.
