Mountaineer baseball fans, it’s time to step up to the plate—Netflix has just announced a thrilling new documentary chronicling the rise, resilience, and legacy of the West Virginia Mountaineers Baseball program. Set to premiere on August 23, 2025, this comprehensive documentary promises an emotional and inspiring journey through decades of grit, glory, and game-changing moments.
Titled “Diamonds in the Hills: The Story of Mountaineer Baseball”, the documentary blends historical footage, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes access into a cinematic tribute to one of college baseball’s most passionate and determined programs. With production led by Emmy-winning director Mason Caldwell, the film dives deep into the culture of Mountaineer baseball, beginning with its humble roots in the early 20th century.
From the dusty diamonds of Morgantown to the nationally ranked powerhouse the Mountaineers are today, the documentary traces how a small-town program captured national attention through perseverance, innovation, and heart. Viewers will relive the team’s historic Big 12 tournament win in 2019, its record-breaking 2023 season, and the unforgettable leadership of legendary coach Randy Mazey, who laid the foundation for the team’s modern resurgence before handing over the reins to his protégé.
