From the Soccer Pitch to the Football Field: Colton Chmelar Ready to Kick Off College Career at Texas A&M
Colton Chmelar is no stranger to pressure-packed moments—whether it’s sending a penalty kick into the net or drilling a game-winning field goal. Now, the former soccer standout and rising football star is preparing to take the next big step: joining the Texas A&M football team as a preferred walk-on kicker.
A graduate of A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, Chmelar first made his mark on the soccer field. He played competitive club soccer and participated in the Olympic Development Program, where he faced some of the top talent in the nation. His background in soccer helped him develop precise footwork, power, and mental focus—skills that translated naturally into placekicking on the football field.
Chmelar’s transition to football began in high school and quickly turned heads. In his senior year, he went a perfect 51-for-51 on extra points and hit a career-long 51-yard field goal. His consistency and range earned him a 4.5-star rating from kicking analysts and placed him among the top-ranked high school kickers in Texas and nationwide.
Despite receiving interest to play college soccer, Chmelar followed his heart and chose football. His commitment to Texas A&M represents more than just a change in sport—it’s a return to his hometown roots and a chance to compete at the highest level in the SEC.
“This opportunity means everything to me,” Chmelar shared in a recent interview. “Getting to wear the maroon and white and represent Texas A&M, especially coming from College Station, is something I’ve dreamed about.”
As part of the Aggie football program, Chmelar will reunite with his high school quarterback, Will Hargett, who also committed to A&M. The duo will room together on campus, continuing a bond that has helped them thrive both on and off the field.
Chmelar capped off his high school athletic career in style by being named MVP of the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches All-Star Game—his final competitive soccer match before turning his full focus to football.
Now, with training camp on the horizon, Chmelar is laser-focused on earning a spot on the field and contributing to the Aggies’ special teams unit. His story—from soccer fields to football stadiums—is a testament to adaptability, dedication, and the power of believing in one’s own path.
