His 1995 team is often cited as one of the most dominant in college football history.

Following his coaching career, Osborne continued to serve the public as a U.S. Congressman and later returned to the University of Nebraska as Athletic Director, where he worked to restore the strength and tradition of the football program. He also co-founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program, which has impacted tens of thousands of youth across the Midwest.
