Nebraska Baseball Dominates Maryland in Seven-Inning Rout, Takes Conference Series
The crack of the bat echoed across Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon as Nebraska unleashed an offensive onslaught, dismantling Maryland 21-5 in just seven innings to clinch the Big Ten conference series. A sunlit crowd of over 6,000 fans roared their approval, watching the Huskers put together one of their most lopsided wins of the season.
From the first pitch, it was clear the Cornhuskers had come to make a statement. Junior leadoff hitter Casey Burnham ripped a double to left-center to start the bottom of the first, and Nebraska never looked back. The mercy rule came into effect in the bottom of the seventh when Nebraska plated its 21st run — a bases-loaded single by Josh Caron that bounced past the diving shortstop. The game ended not with fireworks, but with a subtle bow of dominance, as the Huskers swarmed the field, high-fiving and laughing with the easy confidence of a team finding its rhythm at just the right time.
The win secured the series for Nebraska, giving them two out of three games against a solid Maryland squad. More than just a victory, it was a showcase of power, poise, and depth across the lineup.
