The Kentucky Wildcats continue to bolster their roster through the transfer portal, making their fourth addition in just two days.
After securing commitments from Alabama wide receiver Kendrick Law, Wyoming defensive tackle Jaden Williams, and Nebraska running back Dante Dowdell on Friday, Kentucky followed up with another significant acquisition on Saturday. Former Maryland Terrapins cornerback Kevis Thomas announced his commitment to the Wildcats, as first reported by KSR’s Jacob Polacheck. This decision comes on the heels of Thomas’s recent visit to Lexington.
A product of Valdosta, Georgia, Thomas was a three-star recruit in the class of 2023. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he was ranked as the 573rd overall prospect in his class. Despite being relatively under the radar, Thomas has quickly gained experience at the collegiate level. As a true freshman, he saw action in six games and received a 67.9 grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF), signaling promise in his debut season.
In the 2024 season, Thomas took a step forward, appearing in 10 games and starting eight of them. During this stretch, he accumulated 21 tackles and two pass deflections. However, his PFF grade dipped to 49.4, reflecting areas of inconsistency in his performance. Primarily a boundary cornerback, Thomas brings size, athleticism, and two years of eligibility to Kentucky’s secondary.
For the Wildcats, Thomas represents a depth piece who can immediately compete for playing time. With starting boundary corners JQ Hardaway and DJ Waller projected to hold down the primary roles, Thomas will likely push for a rotational spot while providing insurance in the defensive backfield. His experience as a starter and potential for development make him a valuable addition to Kentucky’s defense.
This latest commitment underscores Kentucky’s active and strategic approach to the transfer portal, as they look to address key areas of need and strengthen their roster heading into the 2024 season.
