The recruitment battle for Ball State transfer cornerback Myles Norwood has come down to two SEC heavyweights: Kentucky and South Carolina. With a commitment date locked in for December 25th, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound standout is ready to make a life-changing decision after wrapping up his final visits.
Norwood’s Priorities in His Transfer Decision
For Norwood, choosing between the Wildcats and Gamecocks boils down to finding the best environment where he can thrive both on and off the field. “I’m looking for the best fit where I can make an immediate impact,” Norwood explained. “I want to be somewhere that will help change my life by 2025. It’s about the scheme, opportunity, coaching staff, culture, and development. Both schools have a proven track record of turning one-year transfers into NFL players.”
The former Ball State star added that playing in the SEC is a dream scenario. “You can’t pass up the SEC. Both programs need players like me to fill key roles, so it’s more of a need than a want for them.”
Kentucky Visit Highlights
Norwood concluded his recruitment visits with a trip to Lexington, where he connected with head coach Mark Stoops and the Kentucky coaching staff. “What stood out to me was the coaching staff, defensive scheme, and the culture Coach Stoops is rebuilding,” Norwood said. “They see me playing as either a nickel or corner, utilizing my versatility and football IQ. But I know I have to compete—nothing will be handed to me.”
During his visit, Norwood spent time with fellow transfer Kameron Olds, a recent Kentucky commit from Kent State. “We talked about Coach [Brad] White’s defensive plans for both of us and how we’d fit into the system,” Norwood said. “It’s great to know other talented players are buying into the vision here.”
South Carolina Visit Impressions
Before visiting Kentucky, Norwood made an official visit to South Carolina. He praised the Gamecocks for their opportunities and shared how closely the two programs align. “The opportunities are similar for me at both schools,” Norwood stated. “They both offer a chance to play in the SEC, which is huge. It’s a close race, and both programs have what I’m looking for in terms of development and exposure.”
Norwood’s Game and Goals
Norwood’s athleticism and high football IQ have made him a coveted transfer. At Ball State, he recorded 38 tackles and five pass deflections in 2024, earning a solid 70.7 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus. Yet, he knows there’s more work to be done.
“I bring a high football IQ, speed, toughness, and versatility,” Norwood said. “I can play man or zone and adapt to different schemes. But I know I need to keep building my strength, explosiveness, and press technique. Both Kentucky and South Carolina’s coaching staffs have detailed plans to help me improve in those areas.”
When asked what fans can expect from him, Norwood confidently stated, “I’m well-rounded and athletic. If I become a Wildcat—or a Gamecock—you’re getting a player who locks down his side of the field. I’m going to give it my all and ensure I do my job.”
What’s Next?
With his final visits in the books and a Christmas Day decision on the horizon, Norwood’s recruitment has SEC fans on edge. Regardless of his choice, Norwood will bring immediate talent, discipline, and potential to his next program, ensuring he leaves a significant mark in his final collegiate seasons.
