After two seasons with the New York Giants, quarterback Tyrod Taylor has switched teams, signing a two-year, $12 million deal with the New York Jets to back up Aaron Rodgers. The 34-year-old recently shared his thoughts on the contrasting environments of the two New York franchises.
Comparing the Giants and Jets: Taylor’s Perspective
“This is no disrespect to [the Giants] or anything, but coming in here and being around the guys for Phase One, it was refreshing—the energy throughout the locker room,” Taylor commented. “On the field, it just feels different. I’ve been on several teams… I think we’re in a good space.”
The Giants struggled offensively last season, rotating between three quarterbacks—Taylor, Daniel Jones, and Tommy DeVito—who collectively endured a franchise-record 85 sacks. Taylor himself managed a 2-3 record in his five starts.
Two Challenging Seasons with the Giants
During his tenure with the Giants in 2022 and 2023, Taylor backed up Daniel Jones, appearing in 14 games (five starts) and throwing for six touchdowns and four interceptions. Now with the Jets, Taylor is set to back up future Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers.
The Jets, in contrast to the Giants, are positioned as playoff contenders, featuring a roster filled with dynamic playmakers on both offense and defense. The Giants, meanwhile, are still trying to find their footing after another challenging season.
A New Opportunity
In his 14th NFL season, the veteran quarterback is eager to contribute to a team that appears to be on an upward trajectory for the first time in years. Taylor is looking forward to making an impact with the Jets, appreciating the fresh energy and optimistic outlook of his new team.
