After serving as an assistant coach for the West Virginia Mountaineers during the 2023-24 college basketball season, Da’Sean Butler is set to reunite with his former WVU teammate, Joe Mazzulla, in the NBA. Butler will join the Boston Celtics as a video coordinator and contribute to player development, as reported by Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.
Butler, who played for West Virginia from 2006-10, was a pivotal player alongside Mazzulla. He was drafted 42nd overall by the Miami Heat in the 2010 NBA Draft following his key role in leading the Mountaineers to the 2010 Final Four.
Throughout his collegiate career, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 14.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Butler was known for his scoring versatility and three-point shooting, making 205 three-pointers over 146 games.
