NBA Fans Stunned by Warriors’ Return in Klay Thompson Sign-and-Trade
NBA fans are in disbelief over what the Golden State Warriors received in return for Klay Thompson in a sign-and-trade deal involving the Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets.
Thompson agreed to a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks. To facilitate the move, the deal turned into a sign-and-trade that included the Hornets. Charlotte acquired Josh Green, while Golden State received two second-round picks, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. Surprisingly, the Warriors did not receive a first-round pick for trading away their franchise legend.
Though better than nothing, as Thompson could have left as an unrestricted free agent, fans were still shocked that the Mavericks only needed two second-rounders and Green to acquire Thompson.
“Warriors franchise might be the second-worst run franchise other than the Lakers,” one critic wrote.
Another shocked fan said, “That’s all the Warriors got lmaoooooo.” A third commenter agreed, adding, “The Warriors should’ve paid Klay at this point lol.”
“Two second-round picks? Mikal Bridges was worth five first-rounders,” another surprised social media user noted.
“Robbery by the Mavs,” shared another commenter.
Despite the shock, the Warriors had little leverage since Thompson was set to leave regardless. Additionally, avoiding receiving a large contract in return gives the Warriors more flexibility this offseason.
The Mavericks have sent two second-round picks to the Warriors to complete the Klay Thompson sign-and-trade to Dallas, sources said.

Still, it’s easy to understand the fans’ frustration given Thompson’s status as one of the best players in Warriors history. This move marks a significant shift for Golden State as they navigate the post-Thompson era.
