On Friday, Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, and the Phoenix Mercury secured a 92-78 victory over Dearica Hamby and the Los Angeles Sparks, improving their season record to 9-8, placing them fourth in the Western Conference. The Sparks, meanwhile, fell to 4-14, languishing at the bottom of the standings.
In a postgame interview, Taurasi turned her attention to the Mercury’s next challenge: Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. She summed up the young Fever squad in two words: “Super talented.”
“Obviously, Indiana’s another super talented young team that’s going to come in here and play well. The beauty about being young is you don’t know any better. You can play carefree and go into these buildings and let it fly,” Taurasi elaborated.
Taurasi had an impressive performance against the Sparks, scoring 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. She also contributed four rebounds and six assists. Griner recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
