It’s certainly a smart time to look to 2024, as even if the Bears win, they could still miss out on the playoffs.
So this article isn’t about Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Marvin Harrison, or any other free agent, just an overview of the current roster and which team the Chicago Bears should return to in 2024.
Quarterback – Tyson Bagent The Chicago Bears will almost certainly take him one of the top two picks in the NFL draft.
Ryan Pauls said any QB candidate to replace Justin Fields would have to “blow him away,” and we’ll likely hear those exact words in late April.
I believe Justin Fields will probably be traded for a second round pick.
And Tyson Bagent returns as the team’s QB2.
Running Backs – Khalil Herbert, Roshon Johnson, Travis Homer, Kari Blasingame Of this group, I think Donta Foreman is the only one who won’t be back.
Signed to a one-year deal, Foreman once again proved to be a valuable addition to the 53-man roster.
Foreman knows his options are limited here and someone will offer him a chance to play a bigger role elsewhere.
Homer returned for special teams help as he was on a two-year contract, and Blasingame was re-signed as the team’s fullback.
Tight End – Cole Kmet Marcedes Lewis played exactly the role the Bears wanted him to play and he was helpful, but if Lewis wanted to play again he would end up returning to Chicago I don’t think it will, Robert Tonian didn’t do much and his effort was pretty low.
The Bears need to add reinforcements behind Kmet, but I think they will consider signing a new TE2 and perhaps adding a young tight end midway through the draft.
Wide Receiver – DJ Moore, Tyler Scott Jones is Ryan Pauls’ pet project, so I almost took him off the roster, but I expect the position to change drastically this offseason, so Jones He could go in as the 6th WR, but I can’t do that because of the bad performances after him.
I think the Bears will have a new offensive coordinator who won’t find the same value in Ichnimius St.
Brown.
Darnell Mooney is not happy with his role here and will likely look to sign a one- or two-year deal somewhere where he can get a bigger role that could lead to a higher salary.
Offensive Line – Darnell Wright, Nate Davis, Teven Jenkins, Braxton Jones, Larry Borom, Ja’Tyre Carter The Bears will have several roster spots open on the offensive line next year, but neither It needs to be a capable center.
play.
Cody Whitehair was released and Lucas Patrick will not be re-signed.
I expect the Bears to sign a center in free agency and acquire another in the draft.
Larry Borom returns as a swing tackle in the final year of his contract.
Special Teams – Cairo Santos, Trenton Gill, Patrick Scales Scales always seems to have the long snap in the right spot, so it doesn’t seem like a change is needed there, and Santos continues to show that he is needed.
He will be one of the best kickers in the league.
Gil is struggling and could be a replacement, but the Bears have a bigger catch and could ride out another year with Gil to see if he can bounce back from his second-year slump.
I might check to see if there are any new players here.
2025.
